Mental Health Rehab Treatments

Ocean Recovery Centre offers a variety of treatment plans for sufferers of mental health conditions. All of our treatment offerings take place in residential settings. This means clients must be willing to move into our rehabilitation centre for around 14-28 days whilst treatment is undergone. The precise duration of your treatment is determined during a pre-admissions assessment.

About mental health problems

Mental health problems affect a person’s entire sense of wellbeing, from how they feel, think and behave. If you have a history of mental health problems then it is likely you have lived with this trauma for what seems like a lifetime. The good news is that your condition is highly treatable. Following mental health rehab treatment the majority of our clients go on to live a happy and successful life.

What are mental health problems?

Mental health problems vary from common everyday worries up to serious conditions such as eating disorders, clinical depression and psychosis.

The vast majority of people suffering from a mental health condition overcome their condition without the need for professional health. However some people require assistance in order to return to a healthy state of mind.

Some mental health problems threaten sufferers’ physical as well as mental wellbeing. This includes eating disorders, as well as depression since the latter carries a risk of self-harm and suicide.

Broadly speaking mental health problems are divided into one of two categories depending on the symptoms which clients describe. A ‘neurotic’ mental health condition refers to acute symptoms of common mental experiences such as eating disorders, anxiety, depression and panic. Government statistics reveal around 10% of men and 20% of women will suffer from such a condition during their lifetime. A ‘psychotic’ mental health condition is one that alters a client’s sense of reality. Example psychotic mental health conditions include schizophrenia, bi-polar disorder and psychosis.

What happens when my treatment begins

When you enter Ocean Recovery for mental health treatment you are initially assessed by a psychiatrist. A psychiatrist carries out a full physical and mental examination. If necessary, the psychiatrist reviews your medical history and will try to diagnose your mental health problem. Diagnosis of your condition is directly attributed to the symptoms you purport to suffer from.

Mental health treatment we provide

Following assessment mental health clients become subject to a variety of different yet overlapping therapy techniques. These techniques include psychotherapy, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and a range of ‘holistic therapies’.

Combined, these treatments aim to tackle the root emotional core of your mental health issues. These typically include traumatic events occurring in your past. Many of these events may need unearthing from your subconscious. This process of ‘unearthing’ is achieved via a regime of group and individual therapy sessions. All of these sessions are therapist-led. All therapist employed by Ocean Recovery Centre have gained many years’ experience in treating mental health problems such as clinical depression, anxiety, eating disorders, OCD and bipolar disorder.

Your treatment plan is entirely tailored to your specific needs and wishes. Our psychiatrist may prescribe anti-depressants or sleeping medication in order to address shore-term symptoms of your condition.

Holistic therapies aim to arm you with relaxation and coping skills needed for long-term victory over mental health illness. These holistic therapies include yoga, meditation, reflexology, Reiki and art therapy.
