Welcome to your Codependency Assessment

For people who are close to somebody with a drug or alcohol addiction, it can be extremely difficult to watch. Especially when a drug or alcohol habit begins to affect them economically, as well as in their lifestyle and relationships. Loved ones can run the risk of becoming codependent or enabling the behaviour of somebody with a substance addiction.

Unhealthy relationships can form as a result of codependent relationships forming. Although it may feel like a necessity to help a loved one who has a substance abuse problem, it can often do more harm than good and create an even bigger problem, particularly for yourself.

You may not realise that you are codependent, which is why we have created a codependency assessment for you on this page. It is important that you ensure that you are taking care of yourself, which can become difficult if you are concerned about a loved one with a substance abuse problem.

Characteristics of Codependency

If you have a codependent personality, you may possess some of these characteristics:

  • You feel responsible for people and their feelings
  • You feel the need to fix other people’s problems
  • Are extremely loyal and protective – can lead to you staying in unhealthy relationships or situations
  • Have low self-esteem
  • Struggle to make decisions
  • Avoid help from others
  • Very aware of others’ feelings

Codependent personalities are much more likely to be involved with people who have addiction problems, so it is important that you address the problem if you are codependent. Take our test below to find out your results.
