Drug and Alcohol Rehab Centres in Tyldesley

Substance addiction is a huge problem in the UK. There are an estimated 602,391 dependent drinkers in England alone – only 18% of whom are accessing treatment.1 The heavy and consistent use of harmful substances like alcohol and drugs can have very serious consequences, significantly increasing the risk of a whole host of debilitating and deadly health conditions. Heart disease, cirrhosis of the liver, pancreatitis, mouth cancer, liver cancer, bowel cancer, blood pressure issues, heart attacks and strokes are just some of the problems that can be caused by alcohol abuse.2 That is without even mentioning the danger of poisoning or overdose. In 2021, 4,859 deaths were attributed to drug poisoning in England and Wales.3

If you are suffering from an addiction to drugs or alcohol, it is vital that you get help as soon as you can. Every day that passes only increases the danger that you will fall victim to a serious illness, or an acute medical emergency.

Symptoms of Drug and Alcohol Addiction

There is an undeniable link between stress and substance abuse. Many people who suffer with addiction first turn to drugs or alcohol as a way of coping with stresses and pressures, often related to financial worries or social problems. The feelings of pleasure that alcohol and drugs bring can seem very rewarding, and the transition from casual and occasional use to full-blown reliance can be as sheer and sudden as a cliff edge. If you are worried that you have developed a dependency on drugs or alcohol, it is worth asking yourself these questions:

  • Can I go more than one day without needing to drink alcohol or take drugs?
  • Can I go more than one day without feeling strong cravings to drink alcohol or take drugs?
  • If I don’t drink any alcohol or take any drugs, do I feel physically unwell?
  • If I don’t drink any alcohol or take any drugs, do I begin to feel anxious or paranoid?
  • Has my behaviour changed recently? Am I more reckless than usual? Have I been more aggressive to the people around me?
  • Has my drinking or drug use become a financial burden? Am I spending money uncontrollably on drugs or alcohol?

If you find that any of these scenarios hit close to home, it might be time to admit that you have a problem. There is no shame in this. Addiction is an illness, and as with any illness you are entitled to care and support.

What Happens in Private Rehab?

Private rehab is the single most effective way to overcome an addiction to drugs or alcohol. Rehab offers a safe space, away from the usual stress and pressure that can fuel substance abuse. Our facilities are warm and comfortable, our staff friendly and dedicated, making Ocean Recovery the most conducive environment for addiction recovery.

Addiction treatment is generally split into two phases. The first is detox, where we wait for the harmful substances to be processed and flushed out of your body. The second is therapy, where we deal with the psychological aspects of your addiction.

Detox and Therapy Treatments

Detox, the first part of your rehab treatment, is not as scary as it might sound. We simply wait for your body to metabolise and remove whatever alcohol or drugs are still affecting it. Once your body is clean of toxins, you will enter withdrawal. Withdrawal symptoms can be very unpleasant. Sometimes, depending on the nature and severity of your addiction, they can even be dangerous. They can range from mild annoyances like aches and pains to more serious problems such as vomiting and diarrhoea. In particularly bad cases, it can even cause seizures and hallucinations. But at rehab you will be under the watch of a highly trained team of medical and psychiatric specialists.

You will have constant access to their support and guidance and, if necessary, emergency care. Withdrawal is unpleasant, but at rehab you will be as safe and comfortable as it is possible to be throughout drug detox.

Once the drugs are flushed out and you have gotten over the worst of your withdrawal symptoms, it is time to address the root causes of your addiction. We take a holistic approach to addiction rehab, so you will have the opportunity to engage with a variety of different therapies. Cognitive behavioural therapy, a kind of talking therapy designed to foster constructive coping mechanisms and break self-destructive patterns of thought, is generally the most effective method when it comes to treating addiction. But we also offer more innovative styles of therapy, such as art therapy, as well as more traditional services such as individual and group counselling sessions.

Aftercare and Local Support

Addiction is a lifelong battle. Recovery is something that you will have to continue to work at, every day. Relapse is always a possibility. At some point, you probably will falter in your resolve. When that happens, it is important that you have a strong network of support to fall back on. This is why we offer a free 12-month long aftercare package for all of our clients. That first year is the most critical, and we will do all we can to ensure that you get through it safe and sober. Throughout this period we will maintain regular contact with you, offering support and advice as you return to navigating your everyday life.

Addiction is a difficult thing to overcome. But you do not need to face it alone.
