What Causes People to Get Addicted in the First Place?

The cause of addiction is a highly discussed topic.  It does help us to tailor residential treatment towards patients if we know the underlying reason how they got here.

A common reason that people turn to substances is due to untreated mental health problems. Mental health conditions can cause all types of problems if left unchecked. Other common reasons that people turn to addiction are relationship break-ups, stress at work, grief or even childhood issues. It may not even be one of these that is the culprit, often it can be a combination.

We make no judgement on our people in recovery whatsoever, we are simply here to help. Although talking about some of these problems is hard at first, through the help of addiction counsellors and time in private rehabilitation, it’s not long before you start to feel the benefits of addiction treatment.

What Does Private Rehabilitation Look Like?

While it may seem scary at first, starting drug rehab or alcohol rehab isn’t as difficult as you may think. We have helped countless patients in the past and are well equipped to make you as comfortable as possible, as soon as possible.

Our treatment facilities are a great place to relax as you recover. Many people assume that residential rehab will be very claustrophobic and full of rules, it is the opposite. We have private rooms, comfortable accommodation and on-site activities to help you relax and recover.

Unfortunately, one of the first things you will have to do when you first enter our facilities is to go through detoxification. It goes without saying that once you are settled in, you won’t be able to access your substance of choice any longer. This is a vital stage of the treatment program and can sometimes be uncomfortable as your body rids itself of toxins.

You may encounter withdrawal symptoms during detox, don’t worry though, we have staff on hand to make you feel as comfortable as possible.

Once this is complete we can move onto treatment to ensure you remain sober. We will do this by identifying your root causes as discussed earlier. Our addiction counsellors will help you through therapy and get to the bottom of the problem.

Other rehab options that we offer also include group therapy. This allows you to not only socialise with other residents but create a strong support network that you can lean on during your stay.

Am I Ready for Rehab? Do I Need it?

Most people who find themselves looking at a rehab website don’t do so on accident. Many people in recovery have often tried a variety of options with little success before coming to us.

Alcoholics Anonymous and other support groups can be an invaluable tool to help people in recovery, however, at the end of the day if you go home to the same environment you are used to, the urge to relapse will be great.

Some of the key things to look out for if you think you may have a problem are the following:

  • Your mental health is suffering – If you are suffering from anxiety or depression and find yourself often drinking or taking drugs to ease the pain, this can make things a lot worse. It’s often hard to know if the addiction is increasing the worsened mental state or vice versa. Nonetheless, it is a problem that could be addressed with rehab options.
  • Increase in family or relationship issues – If you notice an increase in problems such as these and believe that it is due to addiction then we can help. A lot of the time when people find out about addiction they don’t know how to offer help or may turn their backs on you. This isolation is extremely negative and can only make the situation worse.
  • Your work-life starts to suffer – In a similar vein to the above, if your employer finds out that you have a problem then it can be much harder to do your job. Even worse still, if you have to use substances to make it through the day and your boss finds out then you could lose your job. Losing this income will make it more difficult to fund either alcohol or drug addiction.
  • You notice your health is getting worse – If you are a regular alcohol or drug user then this will no doubt be harming your body. The human body isn’t designed to withstand a large number of toxins, especially if it happens regularly. As well as short term injuries, you may start to develop liver damage that can be difficult to repair.
