At We Are Ocean Recovery, we understand that bringing your car to rehab may be a concern for some of our clients. While we do allow you to bring your vehicle, it’s important to note that you will not be permitted to drive it while you are undergoing treatment. Our primary concern is your safety and the safety of others, and as such, driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly prohibited.

Arriving at Rehab

When you arrive at our facility, it’s likely that you may be dealing with a dependency on alcohol or drugs, and possibly even intoxicated at the time of admission. Driving under these circumstances is not only dangerous but also illegal. We strongly recommend that you arrange for a family member or friend to drive you to our centre. This allows you to focus on beginning your journey to recovery without the added risk of driving under the influence.

In the UK, the legal limit for blood alcohol concentration (BAC) when driving is:

• 35 micrograms of alcohol per 100 milliliters of breath
• 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 milliliters of blood
• 107 milligrams of alcohol per 100 milliliters of urine

It’s important to understand that these limits can vary depending on your weight, age, metabolism, and what you’ve eaten, making it difficult to gauge whether you are legally safe to drive after consuming alcohol. Exceeding these limits can result in severe legal consequences, including fines, driving bans, and even imprisonment.

When it comes to drugs, driving under the influence is equally dangerous and illegal. The UK has strict limits on the amount of certain drugs that can be detected in your blood while driving, including:

• Cannabis (THC)
• Cocaine
• Ecstasy (MDMA)
• Heroin

These limits are set very low, meaning that even small amounts can result in a failed roadside drug test, leading to serious penalties. It’s worth noting that these rules apply not only to illegal drugs but also to some prescription medications.

During Your Treatment

Once you are admitted to our facility, you will be required to hand over your car keys to our office for safekeeping. This is to ensure that your vehicle remains secure and can be moved if needed in the event of an emergency at the property.

Additionally, you will not be allowed to use your car while you are in treatment. Any external outings during your stay will be accompanied by a member of our team, ensuring your safety and compliance with our policies.

Parking at our centres is limited, so please check the availability before you arrive. We also advise that you make sure your vehicle insurance remains valid throughout your stay. While we do our best to ensure your car is safe, We Are Ocean Recovery cannot accept responsibility for vehicles or their contents parked on our premises.

Leaving Rehab

One of the many positive outcomes of completing your treatment with us is the opportunity to leave our care, drug and alcohol-free, behind the wheel of your own car. By this point, you will have completed your programme, equipped with the tools and mindset to maintain your sobriety, and ready to return to the responsibilities of daily life, including driving.

We understand that having your car with you may offer peace of mind and a sense of independence. However, your safety is our utmost priority, and we are here to support you every step of the way on your path to recovery.
