Approaching anyone about their addiction is never easy. Addicts can be quick to feel judged and threatened when approached about their addiction and by approaching them in the wrong way you can actually push them further away from getting the treatment they need. There is a lot of training and expertise required when staging an intervention and/or convincing someone who you care about to take the necessary steps to overcome their addiction. Approaching them from a place of understanding while also remaining firm about the impact their lifestyle is having on those around them is a necessary balance. What happens after drug and alcohol treatment?

After rehab, the recovery journey is only just beginning. Do addicts have to go to rehab?

Some offenders in the criminal justice system may be required to seek treatment for an addiction but for most addicts, there is no obligation to go to rehab. A rehab programme is also far more likely to be effective if the person genuinely wishes to change and participates fully in the therapies and treatments made available. Some people struggling with addiction may be in denial or become defensive. We can offer support for family , friends and others who may be concerned about a loved one. This could include confidential advice on how to talk to the person about their addiction, or even a guided addiction intervention service.
