You should ideally go to rehab as soon as you realise that you have a problem with addiction – whether you come to this realisation yourself or are encouraged to reach it through a drug or alcohol intervention. It is never too soon to seek help and the sooner you do so, the more damage you can avoid doing to your health, life and those around you. On the other hand, it is never too late to seek help and many people who have struggled with their addiction for years find they are finally able to break free from the vicious cycle with the help of drug and alcohol rehab programmes.

What should I take to rehab?

You should bring comfortable clothes, nightwear and attire for some physical activities. You can bring personal items such as photos, ornaments and musical instruments. At Ocean Recovery we provide free WiFi so you can bring laptops, smartphones and even a games console. You should bring any medications you are prescribed but discuss them on admission. Alcohol and prohibited drugs are strictly banned.

How important is an aftercare plan?

The first 12 months after rehab can be an extremely difficult time when you are in recovery. Your stay in rehab will have provided you with the tools and knowledge you need for relapse prevention, but it can be difficult to stay strong and everyone struggles sometimes. A good aftercare plan can provide the support just when you need it, to help ensure you stay clean and sober moving forward.
