Many people have no idea what to expect once they go into drug rehab. And with good reason. Drug rehab experiences vary for a lot of people – and of course, drug rehab centres also vary in quality which makes relying on past experiences of others to give you an idea of rehab, not very useful.
However, rehab is not easy. There are parts of the process that might not be as pleasant, but they are definitely needed in order to get you back on the right track. Here at Ocean Recovery Centre, we offer Drug Rehab services that allow you to be comfortable where needed. On this page, we will explain the benefits of drug rehab, and how it works.
Why you Should Consider Drug Rehab?
If you are reading this, you or a loved one is likely suffering from a drug addiction. Drug addiction can be vicious due to the fact that your brain is essentially hijacked by the addiction – which leads to your decision making skills becoming clouded through the fact that your body is in need of the drug. Take cocaine and heroin for an example. Both are drugs that target the dopamine levels in your brain, and eventually derail them. Your priorities will be all wrong, and the drug taking will become priority number one.
That is why it is important that you get help if you are ready to quit. Many people who try to quit on their own often fall back into drug use quite quickly. That has nothing to do with being weak or strong for that matter, but to do with the fact that your brain simply doesn’t work as intended anymore. Drug addiction is simply a disease. Allowing us to help you can be that support you need in order to restore and get back to the way you were.
Drug Rehab at Ocean Recovery Cenre, How it Works
Once you have spoken to our admissions team and agreed to join us, we will transport you to our centre directly from your home. Ocean Recovery Centre offers drug rehab treatment tailored to your needs and wants. One particular step that you must take before starting rehab, is drug detox. A drug detox is for those who are addicted and want to cleanse their body of the harmful substance they have been using in the recent past. For some drugs this might take a while to disappear out of your system, like cannabis. It stays in your system for 28 days, but it is only effective for a few days in your bloodstream. Cocaine for instance, will stay in your system for about three or four days on the other hand.
The detox period for cocaine is much more intense however. You might experience tremors or other unpleasant side effects like anxiety and depression during your withdrawal from the drug.
Drug Rehab, Post Detox
Once the detox stage has been completed, the actual rehab becomes easier. Following detox, the rehabilitation can begin involving counselling and education. Once the withdrawal has eased and detox is over you can start to change your mindset and behaviour. You need to remove the urge to start using drugs again. Many rehab clinics will use rehabilitation techniques such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy or CBT. This is a therapeutic treatment with the aim to improve your awareness of your triggers.
Triggers are specific things or situations, that will start you craving for the substance. Say, you might have had a stressful day and you feel you want to indulge in these harmful substances and they will make you feel much better. That thought process can be stopped through the help of CBT. It’s important to find the source of the addiction. Drug addiction research has found that traumatic events during your life or mental health issues can be the core reason of the addiction. Counselling and professional drug rehabilitation help can locate the root of the problem and help put you on the path to a full recovery.
