Methamphetamine, or Crystal Meth as it is otherwise known, is a highly addictive stimulant.

Classified as an Amphetamine, Crystal Meth consumption has increased in the United Kingdom over the last decade due to the relative ease of production.  Commonly smoked by users, Crystal Meth also comes in pill form.  It can additionally be injected.

Due to the overall impact that Crystal Meth can have on an individual, in 2006, the Misuse of Drugs Act rescheduled the drug from Class B to Class A.

Although more commonly abused in Asia and America, Crystal Meth continues to be widely available to individuals here in the United Kingdom. Sadly, this has seen many individuals develop Crystal Meth addictions.

If you are silently struggling with a Crystal Meth addiction, obtaining Crystal Meth addiction treatment is essential.

At Ocean Recovery, we can provide the treatment you need to overcome your addiction once and for all.

Crystal Meth Health Implications

As with all substances, consuming Crystal Meth for even a short period can lead to several health implications.

Some of the health implications associated with Crystal Meth use are short-lived and will alleviate within 48 hours. However, a number of the health implications that arise from frequent Crystal Meth addictions are sadly irreversible.

Although we can appreciate that when an addiction is present, the health implications related to Crystal Meth abuse are overlooked, it is imperative to consider how consuming Crystal Meth will gradually impair your health.

Below, we have listed just a number of the health implications often experienced by those that have become addicted to Crystal Meth.

  •   Extremely disturbed sleeping patterns and insomnia
  •   Psychosis and extreme bouts of paranoia
  •   Schizophrenia
  •   Brain damage due to damaged brain cells
  •   Memory loss
  •   Inflammation of the heart lining
  •   Seizures
  •   Raised body temperature
  •   Dental erosion known as ‘meth mouth’
  •   Skin abscesses
  •   Internal bleeding
  •   Lead poisoning
  •   Blindness
  •   Respiratory failure
  •   Overdose and death

If you have experienced, or are currently experiencing any of the above health implications, we would highly recommend that you contact a doctor and our rehab centre.

Failure to seek treatment when these health implications are present could cost you your life.

When you contact our admissions team, they will ask you various questions that form the basis of our pre-admission assessments.  To help you prepare for this, we have outlined just a number of the questions our team may ask you when you contact us below.

  • How long have you been struggling with an addiction to Crystal Meth?
  • What symptoms and health implications do you currently experience?
  • Have you attempted to secure Crystal Meth addiction treatment in the past?
  • Have you ever completed a Crystal Meth addiction treatment programme?
  • Does anyone else know that you are struggling with an addiction to Crystal Meth?

When sharing your answers with us, you must be honest.  This is because your answers will help our team ascertain which treatment you may require.

Upon discussing your addiction with you, our admissions team will provide you with a suitable admission date, if you wish to take advantage of our treatment programmes.

How Our Crystal Meth Detoxification Programme Works

Once you are admitted into our rehabilitation centre, you will be subject to initial detoxification. During detoxification, you may experience several discomforting withdrawal symptoms associated with crystal meth detoxification.

Detoxification takes place on a residential basis. This means you will be required to live within our centre for the duration of treatment and will receive 24-hour a day medical observation.

If necessary, we will provide you with prescription medications such as antidepressants and anxiolytics to help reduce the withdrawal symptoms you encounter.

Common Withdrawal Symptoms

Withdrawal symptoms associated with crystal meth detoxification are mostly psychological in nature. Typically lasting for up to 5 days, withdrawal symptoms often include the following;

  •   Insomnia
  •   Paranoia
  •   Anxiety
  •   Suicidal thoughts and depression
  •   Confusion
  •   Irritability
  •   Vomiting
  •   Tremors

What Happens After Detoxification?

Once withdrawal symptoms begin to stabilise during detoxification, you will progress onto counselling and therapy sessions. During therapy, the psychological aspects of addiction are treated. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is often employed here.

Behavioural modification reduces the risk of relapse once you leave our centre. You are taught to recognise and avoid ‘triggers of addiction’ which you will come into contact with once you leave our centre.

Therapy sessions will take place on a one-to-one basis with a qualified counsellor.  They will also take place in peer-group settings.  Here, you will be given the chance to share and listen to peers’ experiences with Crystal Meth.

Crystal meth has the highest relapse rate amongst all drugs consumed in the United Kingdom. As a result, you will be provided with a relapse prevention plan before you leave our centre.
