Although painkillers are used to treat infections, pain and illnesses, some patients substitute one medical problem for another by developing an addiction to painkillers.

Over time users become tolerant to painkillers, meaning more of the drug is required to experience the desired high or pain relief. This can lead to a substance addiction-forming, especially for addictive medications such as opioid painkillers.

Drug addiction has been steadily on the rise in the UK, with the governments National Statistics reporting that there was 275,896 adults in contact with drug and alcohol services between April 2020 and March 2021.

Breaking free from opioid painkiller addiction often requires much more than willpower. Instead, painkiller rehabilitation treatment is necessary if you want to overcome a painkiller addiction.

Painkiller Addictions We Treat

It is not widely known, but prescription painkillers can be very addictive. Although they are prescribed by doctors, if you take prescription medication for longer or in higher doses than recommended, an addiction can easily form.

At our private residential rehabilitation treatment centre, we treat a wide variety of painkiller addictions including:

If you have found yourself battling a painkiller addiction and mental health disorder like many other individuals struggling with addictions, we can provide you with dual diagnosis treatment. Our dual diagnosis treatment programme will help you overcome your addiction and teach you how to manage your mental health disorder.

If you have previously been diagnosed with depression, anxiety or post-traumatic stress disorder, or have come to feel the effects of these mental health disorders during your addiction, please let us know during the admissions process to rehab.

Determining The Painkiller Rehabilitation Treatment You Require

When you decide that the time is right for you to start the painkiller rehabilitation treatment we provide, our admissions team will conduct a pre-admission assessment to help you understand the treatment you can expect from our facility.

Upon entering our residential drug and alcohol rehab, you will then be required to complete a second assessment with our medical team. Although they will already have an understanding of the severity of your drug addiction, conducting a further assessment will enable them to determine the physical and psychological impact your addiction has had on you.

In doing so, our medical staff will be able to devise a personalised painkiller rehabilitation treatment programme for you.

How Our Painkiller Rehab Treatment Programme Works

Our painkiller rehabilitation programme requires clients to move into our private rehab centre for the duration of addiction treatment. By staying at a residential rehab centre, the triggers of addiction are managed in a secure and professional environment, and you will be guided throughout the rehab process.

The first step of recovery at our rehab centre is the detox process. Drug detox from painkillers is medically assisted by recovery professionals and staff who are there to help you throughout the process. Clients have no access to painkillers during the painkiller detox and subsequent rehabilitation treatment afterwards.

Once the painkiller detox has ended, therapies and rehabilitation will start.

Painkiller Detoxification Programme

As and when you enter our residential rehab, the first step in your painkiller rehabilitation treatment programme will consist of a painkiller detoxification programme.

During a medically induced detoxification, painkillers will be cleansed from your system. This allows your brain and body to begin to withdraw from the substances you have become addicted to and kickstart your recovery from addiction.

Our team will ensure that you receive 24-hour day medical attention during detoxification to ensure that withdrawal symptoms are closely monitored.

If you find the withdrawal symptoms unbearable to cope with during detoxification, you may be offered opiate receptor antagonists such as Subutex and Naltrexone. These opiate receptor antagonists will essentially ease the physical and psychological withdrawal symptoms you encounter.

Common Withdrawal Symptoms

As individuals struggling with painkiller addictions progress through detoxification, withdrawal symptoms are often experienced.

Although these withdrawal symptoms can cause some discomfort, it is entirely normal to experience the following:

  • Confusion
  • Sweating
  • Nausea
  • Fatigue
  • Anxiety
  • Muscle aches and pains
  • Restlessness
  • Heart palpitations
  • High temperature
  • Strong cravings

Although the severity of withdrawal symptoms varies greatly, they typically last for up to 10 days from the last time painkillers were consumed.

As touched on above, it should be noted that at our residential rehab, we provide around-the-clock care to all of our patients. If you find yourself experiencing any of the above withdrawal symptoms during painkiller rehabilitation treatment, our team of medical professionals and recovery staff will do everything possible to ensure that you are comfortable.

What Happens After Detox?

Having successfully detoxed from the painkiller that you have become addicted to, your overall physical and psychological state will begin to recover. As this happens, you will progress onto the rehabilitation stage of your painkiller rehabilitation treatment.

Throughout rehabilitation, you will begin to take part in one-to-one and group therapy sessions.

During therapy, you will be encouraged to overcome the psychological aspects of painkiller addiction by determining the factors that have caused your addiction to arise.

Although this may cause you some discomfort, this will ensure that you can identify any triggers that may cause you to relapse and develop various coping strategies that will help you make a long-term recovery.

Please note that the addiction therapy you are provided with during rehabilitation will entirely depend on how your painkiller addiction has impaired your physical and psychological health. Our medical team will be able to inform you of the therapy that you will encounter upon completing a medical assessment as you enter our facility.

Aftercare Support for Individuals Needing Painkiller Rehabilitation Treatment

Once you have completed your painkiller rehab programme at our inpatient rehab centre, you will receive aftercare support to keep you on track during your recovery journey.

Although many believe that when they complete rehab, they will be left to continue to recover from their addiction alone, this is not true.

At Ocean Recovery Centre, we understand that insufficient aftercare support is one of the leading causes of relapses. This is why we provide all of our patients with 12 months of free aftercare support.

Our aftercare support typically includes weekly catch-up sessions with our recovery team. These catch-up sessions are usually group sessions and are held every week. However, if you require additional support, we can also offer you further one-to-one therapy.

We also encourage clients to engage in local Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous groups in their local area.

Secure Painkiller Rehabilitation Treatment Today

At Ocean Recovery Centre, we can provide you with almost immediate support and ensure that you are able to commence treatment within a relatively short time frame.
