Alcoholism can affect anyone from any background. If left untreated, it can impact all areas of life, such as your relationships, professional ambitions, and physical and psychological well-being.With the help of our medically trained clinicians, therapists, and psychologists, we provide personalised treatments and professional care at our alcohol rehab centres.

What is Alcohol Rehab?

Alcohol Rehab, or alcohol rehabilitation, is a programme designed to help you quit drinking if you suffer from alcoholism. This can be carried out in a residential rehab centre where you will stay for a period of time and carry out an alcohol detox and tailored therapy programme.

Rehab is necessary for people with a serious alcohol use disorder. However, depending on your personal needs and requirements, there are different options for alcohol rehab treatment, and it does not always involve staying in a private rehab. People with milder addictions may complete the rehab programme at home with the help of outpatient recovery services.

If you want to lead a healthy and fulfilling life, visiting an alcohol rehab centre is just the beginning in overcoming your alcoholism.

Your Alcohol Rehab Programme

Alcohol addiction is hard to beat and will likely be much more difficult if you attempt to do it yourself.

The first step in treating alcohol addiction is to admit you suffer from alcohol dependence. Once you acknowledge this dependency, you can then start your recovery journey with the help of a professional rehab centre or local support groups.

Some people will visit a residential treatment centre, and others will receive treatment as an outpatient, taking advantage of services provided by local authorities.

If you visit a residential alcohol rehab, you will have 24-hour support to manage your withdrawal symptoms and a tailored treatment programme.

If you do not visit an alcohol rehab centre and decide to attempt an alcohol recovery at home, you will not have 24-hour addiction support and have a less structured pathway to recovery. You may rely on family members to help you through withdrawal symptoms and will have fewer treatment options available post-detox.

Alcohol Rehab Admission

If you start an inpatient rehab programme, you will have a full health check upon arrival at the alcohol rehab centre. You will be interviewed, and our addiction counsellors will draw up an alcohol treatment programme based on your individual needs. You will not be allowed to drink alcohol from this point onwards.

The programme will include mental health treatment such as cognitive behavioural therapy, group therapy, addiction therapy and a range of evidence-based treatments.

You will have your own private room and help at hand as soon as you start to experience withdrawal symptoms.

If you decide to tackle your alcohol use disorder as an outpatient, you will need to speak with your GP about the drug and alcohol addiction services available in the local area. They will put you into contact with local support groups such as alcoholics anonymous and other council-led programmes that offer support.

This form of alcohol treatment is also less intensive compared to residential alcohol rehab. You will be free to live at home and go to work or look after the family.

Alcohol Detox

Detox is always the 1st step you will take when you stop alcohol consumption. If you have been drinking for many years, you may experience severe withdrawal symptoms. Here at Ocean Recovery, our addiction counsellors and residential GPs put you through a medically assisted detox as part of the treatment process.

This basically means we will manage your withdrawal symptoms with medication. People who need alcohol addiction treatment will suffer from side effects once they stop drinking. These can range in severity from the shakes and feeling sick to serious side effects such as delirium temens which can include seizures and hallucinations.

Due to the potential side effects of alcohol withdrawal, you will first need to undergo a complete medical examination by a doctor, as there may be a requirement to use medications to help wean your body off alcohol. The time it takes to complete detox depends on how severe your addiction is.

The detoxification phase of addiction rehab treatment is dedicated to safely removing all harmful substances from your system. This must be done in a controlled and safe environment as withdrawal can cause shock to the body and can be unsafe to carry out without a trained professional.

If it is not possible for you to visit one of our alcohol rehab clinics and you are detoxing at home, you will still face the same alcohol cravings. If you have health complications, it is advisable to seek advice from your GP before you begin the detox period.

Therapies in Alcohol Rehab

In our alcohol rehab, you will begin a range of therapies after you have successfully completed detoxification.

These holistic therapies will help uncover any underlying causes that contribute towards your alcohol problems. Therapy is very important to maintain sobriety and can help lead to a full recovery over a long period of time.

The therapies help reduce relapse rates and are important to complete as you do not want to start drinking again at some point in the future.

Our inpatient treatment programmes provide access to :

  • Cognitive behavioural therapy
  • Group Therapy
  • Family Therapy
  • One on one Counselling Session
  • Bereavement counselling
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder Counselling

In alcohol rehab, we look for any dual diagnosis. This is where a person suffers from a mental health issue and an addiction at the same time. If you leave alcohol rehab and any mental issues have not been diagnosed and treated, this will increase the chances of relapse.

To achieve sobriety over the long term, we take a holistic approach and deal not only with your physical addiction but also any psychological aspects that may have contributed towards your alcohol abuse.

This phase of your treatment focuses on a wide range of therapies and treatments to help you manage your addiction triggers. During the rehab stage of addiction treatment, you will learn how to cope with and manage everyday situations you may have to face once you leave the rehab centre.

Unfortunately, when you undertake alcohol treatment as an outpatient, you will not have this 24-hour dedicated mental health support and range of treatment options. You may attend a local drug rehab that provides free services, but the service is not personalised and is organised more on a drop-in basis.

You can also access group therapy in free services such as alcoholics anonymous which can help you stop your alcohol use by following practises such as the 12 step programme.

But it is easy to fall back and drink alcohol again when you try to recover in the community. If you have a busy social life or family members drink alcohol, you may find yourself surrounded by alcohol use in your everyday life, increasing the chances of relapse.

Frequently Asked Questions

Choosing the right rehab treatment provider can be a life-changing decision; here are some of the most common questions we are asked pre-admission.

What are the Signs of an Alcohol Addiction?

The signs that you are suffering from alcohol addiction include:

  • Binge drinking on your own
  • Drinking until you blackout
  • Being in denial or lying about how much you drink to your family members and friends
  • Drinking as soon as you get up in the morning
  • Using drink as a way of treating mental health problems such as anxiety, depression or stress
  • Increasing the frequency of your drink to feel drunk after developing a tolerance to alcohol

These are the more common signs, but we have found more deep-rooted problems causing an addiction that can only be solved by speaking to specialist treatment centres such as ourselves.

If you recognise any of the above signs or think you might have an addiction due to another reason, please get in touch with our team.

As addictions can be directly linked to mental health conditions, we offer dual treatment packages that treat your mental health condition and your alcohol addiction.

When you can control your mind, you will have a better chance of controlling your addiction, contact our team to find out more.

Why Should I Consider Residential Rehab?

When considering treatment options for alcohol rehab, you may be considering outpatient treatment, for example, but this is not a treatment method designed for those suffering from long term addiction.

With residential alcohol rehabilitation treatment, you will be receiving treatment from rehab clinics with 24/7 medical support to help you through successful detoxification where you may experience several uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms.

Due to these symptoms, we would strongly recommend that detoxification is not attempted at home or without qualified medical professionals as the withdrawal symptoms may get to the stage where medical attention is required.

How Long Does Alcohol Rehab Typically Take?

At Ocean Recovery, we strongly recommend undertaking our full rehab programme, which is 28 days. During your recovery journey, you will spend a certain amount of time detoxifying, and the rest of the time will be inpatient care. However, we also offer a year-long aftercare programme specifically tailored to you.

How Much Does Alcohol Rehab Cost?

Finding rehab centres that can provide you with good quality treatment tailored to your needs can be a tough task.

We offer a range of packages that are specifically tailored to you. You can find more about the pricing and the options available by using our online contact form at the bottom of this page.

Will I Still Receive Help After I Receive Treatment?

Once you have successfully gone through alcohol rehabilitation, that is just the start of your journey.

Included in all rehabilitation packages with Ocean Recovery is a FREE 12-month aftercare plan.

Aftercare will give you access to regular meetings with our addiction experts every month to see how you are progressing and how well you deal with the temptations.

The likelihood of a relapse is unfortunately high after receiving treatment.

This is why we have aftercare plans to help reduce the likelihood of relapse by providing constant support in dedicated helplines that can be contacted 24/7.

Whenever you feel like the urge of the drink is getting the better of you simply pick up the phone and speak to our aftercare team who can help and support you through this difficult period.
