Admitting you have a problem is difficult, and when getting help for your addiction it can make things seem like they aren’t getting easier any time soon. There is hard work for you ahead, but we promise that a life of sobriety will be worth it in the end. The Ocean Recovery Centre is here to help you achieve that and get rid of your addiction with our drug and alcohol recovery service.
How do I know whether rehab is the best option for me?
There’s always a great deal of hesitation when it comes to considering rehab. It is seen as a last resort to many, but rehab can help anyone at any stage in their addiction. In fact, the sooner you get help from a rehab centre, the better.
Many people struggle on their own to give up alcohol or drugs and they often find themselves relapsing over and over again.
The main problem with this is that you’re probably still in the same environment as before you gave up the substance. Not enough has changed for your sobriety to become permanent. Many people make the mistake of removing the substance or replacing it with something else, but this ignores the cause of addiction and the underlying problems that inevitably lead to relapse.
Rehab both takes you out of the environment you’re used to and aims to address the underlying problems with your addiction. We aim to cover all bases so that you can heal in a sustainable way.
What is a rehab clinic like?
Everyone has their own idea of what rehab is really like. Unfortunately, a lot of people imagine it’s like a hospital or even a prison that you’re forced into against your will. This is a common misconception, the truth is that no one can force you to go to rehab. You have to take that step yourself and commit to getting better. In some ways, this makes it harder, but you’ll also know that you’ve done the right thing.
When you walk through Ocean Recovery’s doors, we think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. It is a facility with comfortable accommodation, relaxing and tranquil spaces that can make you feel like you’re on holiday.
We want you to be as comfortable as possible because this is about healing and looking after yourself, not punishment. The work itself will be difficult, but the stay with us doesn’t need to be unpleasant.
We encourage you to bring personal things like family pictures, your favourite books, games consoles or musical instruments so that you feel more at home. This will help you feel more relaxed and also take your mind off the difficult part of getting sober.
What sort of treatment do we offer?
We offer a range of different treatment options including residential addiction treatment, detoxification, therapy, aftercare, relapse prevention, recovery support, family intervention and mental health treatment.
The process of recovery from substance misuse isn’t just about the detox and removing the substances from your reach. This is just the first step but the addiction itself needs to be treated with therapy.
This therapy may look slightly different for everyone, depending on your circumstances, but we find that a lot of people struggling with addiction have things in common. There is often a history of drug or alcohol abuse in the family or friendship groups, there is usually some form of mental health issue that also contributes to the addiction. Things like trauma and grief are also common factors in addiction that need to be addressed.
Our therapies range from psychological therapy such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, bereavement counselling, trauma and abuse counselling and stress management. Through our consultation and one-to-one sessions, we will learn more about you and come up with a treatment plan that is best for you.
We also offer well-being therapies including art, drama and music therapy, relaxation and sleep management therapy, acupuncture, diet therapy and mindfulness – all of which are optional.
Another part of our recovery support is social activities. We arrange daily group walks, beach runs, group outings, quiz and game nights, and visits from family members. A part of recovery also involves group therapy sessions where everyone is encouraged to share their stories to inspire each other and also remind everyone that they’re not alone in their struggle. It’ll be hard at first to get involved, but we find most people benefit from group therapy a great deal.
