How do I convince a family member to get help?

Approaching anyone about their addiction is never easy. Addicts can be quick to feel judged and threatened when approached about their addiction and by approaching them in the wrong way you can actually push them further away from getting the treatment they need. There is a lot of training and expertise required when staging an intervention and/or convincing someone who you care about to take the necessary steps to overcome their addiction. Approaching them from a place of understanding while also remaining firm about the impact their lifestyle is having on those around them is a necessary balance. What Medicines Are Available During Detox?

When reference was earlier made to medically-assisted detox, it should be made clear that the medication prescribed will be done so with your addiction in mind. We will only prescribe medications that do not prove any risk to your recovery or health. Mostly, we will prescribe certain types of painkillers, tranquillisers, or anti-depressants which will see you through the withdrawal period safely and effectively. Getting your body adjusted to a lack of drugs and/or alcohol is a massive shift for your body, and so making sure you are as safely monitored during this period is of paramount importance.

How do I start my recovery journey?

If you have realised that you are an addict, then you’ve already taken the first step towards recovery. That is a victory that many people cannot face up to. You should then do some research to assess your treatment options. Taking the time to find the right path for you will mean that the treatment has a better chance of working and decrease the risk of relapsing in the future.
